Frequently Asked Questions

Who can ride a Glide St. Louis Tour Segway PT?

By Missouri Law, you must be at least 16 years old to ride a Segway on the street.  All three of our currently offered tours incorporate some street riding as part of the regular tour route. The exception to this law allows a child of less than 16 years of age to ride if he or she has a physical impediment or disability.   NOTE:  Glide St. Louis Tours offers a special Charter Tour for families with children 12 to 16 years of age.  Call to inquire.  Participants 16 to 18 years old must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. A parent or legal guardian must also tour at the same time as the minor.  You must be in reasonably good health - no bad feet, legs, ankles or back - and be able to stand in place for long periods at a time. Riders must weigh between 100 and 275 pounds. Riders should also be reasonably acclimated to outdoor activities, and able to tolerate sun, heat, and humidity. Glide St. Louis Tours reserves the right to decline a rider if we determine a safety issue or risk.

How fast will we be going?

While the Segway PT can go about 12.5 MPH, all tours will start with the unit optioned to a maximum speed of 6 MPH. Depending on various conditions, such as the user's comfort factor, demonstrated ability, and the tour guide's discretion, we may set your Segway to the higher speed later in the tour.

Is it safe for me to ride a Segway?

The Segway PT is a very safe and economical device. However, it is technology, not magic.  Like riding a bicycle, skate board, car, or walking on your own two feet, there is always a risk of falling, and injuries can occur.  If you follow your tour guide's instructions, wear your provided safety helmet, pay attention to yourself, others, your surrounding area and use common sense, your tour will be safe, comfortable, and fun!

Can I ride the Segway anywhere?

The Segway can go where people go - on a sidewalk, bike path, streets under 45 miles per hour, stores, etc. Segways are not designed to ride up or down steps, curbs or steep hills.  All routes planned by Glide St. Louis Tours are checked for safety and for the smoothest possible experience.  As this is a guided tour (and again, for your safety) you will only be allowed to ride the Segway as led or directed by your Tour Guide.

I want to take pictures while on my tour. Is that OK?

Absolutely! There are a number of planned stops along your tour during which you can take pictures. In fact, we encourage you to ask for any additional stops you desire. For safety, we ask you step off your Segway while composing/taking your pictures. Your Tour Glide will also be happy to take pictures with your camera!

What should I wear to safely ride a Segway?

You should wear comfortable clothes, appropriate for the weather and time you are scheduling your tour. You must wear a safety helmet, be it the one we will provide or your own. Wear comfortable but sturdy shoes, such as walking shoes or tennis shoes. Flip-flops, high heels, bare feet, etc., are not appropriate.

Do I need a helmet or other safety gear?

For safety's sake, Glide St. Louis Tours requires all riders to wear a helmet while on the Segway. An adjustable, sanitized safety helmet is provided as part of the tour fee. If you have your own approved safety helmet you wish to use, that's not a problem at all!  No other gear is required.

Do I have to sign a waiver?

All participants of a Glide St. Louis tour must sign a liability waiver before participating. Gliders 16 to 18 years old must have an adult at least 25 years of age sign their wavier and accompany them on the tour.

I have blood sugar issues. Can I bring food?

Yes! Our Segways are outfitted with a bar bag that will hold a limited quantity of items such as food, drink, wallets, cameras, etc. Please eat and/or drink so as to keep yourself healthy and to keep your tour going.

I booked a tour a while back, but now I've changed my mind. Can I have a refund?

Unfortunately, we cannot refund the tour fee. Due to the nature of a tour business, once you book a slot it is yours and no longer available to others. Therefore, the company's policy is no refunds or exchanging of tour time slots unless there is inclement weather.

What if it rains on the day of my tour?

The Segway PT is a completely sealed unit, and is capable of operating in the rain. A rain poncho will be provided, as needed. Tours usually run in light rain and other moderate weather but may be cancelled up to an hour before the start time in the event weather conditions become severe or unsafe. If cancelled, you can choose to reschedule your tour (subject to availability), receive credit for a future tour, or request a refund.

Is advanced tour booking required?

As tours often sell out quickly, it is highly recommended you book your tour in advance. This will hold your preferred date and time. However, "spur of the moment" customers can always call for availability!

Is there storage space on a Segway?

Our Segways are outfitted with bar bags that have a very limited capacity. Your camera, needed personal items, etc. are acceptable. Space for a soda or water bottle is also available.

Do you offer private/corporate/business events?

Yes. We can accommodate a variety of special requests, such as private events and corporate team building programs. Call 314-Tour Fun (314-868-7386) for more information.
